IMRAMA

Soul Calling

You chose this card because something has been pulling you.

Not loudly, not urgently, not with a clear destination or a detailed map. But persistently. A low, steady current beneath the ordinary movements of your life — drawing you toward something you can feel but have not yet fully named.

Imrama is the Celtic concept of soul wandering — the sacred journey a soul undertakes in response to a deep calling. Not a wandering of aimlessness, but of purposeful, responsive movement toward what the soul has come to do.

You are in that journey. The pulling is the calling. And this card arrives to tell you: it is real, it is yours, and it deserves to be taken seriously.

What the Card Is Seeing in You

You have likely tried to make logical sense of the pull — to translate it into a specific career, a definable goal, a plan you could execute step by step. And it has resisted that translation.

Because soul callings do not arrive fully formed. They arrive as a direction, a quality of aliveness, a sense of rightness when you move a certain way — and they reveal their full shape only as you walk toward them.

What the card sees in you is not someone who doesn’t know their purpose. It sees someone who is mid-calling, between the old life and the new one, in the tender and disorienting space where something is clearly ending and something is not yet fully visible.

This space is not a problem. It is the calling itself, in its most sacred phase.

 THE LIGHT SPEAKING

The soul calling rarely gives you the whole picture at once. It gives you enough light for the next step, and then the next, and then the next — and only when you look back do you see the shape of the whole journey.

This is not cruelty. It is wisdom. Because if you could see the full scope of what you are being called toward, you would be overwhelmed by it — and the very magnitude of it might cause you to turn back before you had taken enough steps to build the confidence to continue.

What you can trust right now is this: the direction of the pull is true. The quality of aliveness you feel when you move toward certain things and away from others is information. The persistent returning of certain ideas, images, conversations, or longings is not coincidence.

It is the calling, speaking in the only language available to it when words would be too much — the language of pull, of resonance, of the heart knowing before the mind has caught up.

Follow the pull. That is enough for now.

What Purpose Looks Like for You Right Now

Purpose at the Imrama stage is not a destination — it is a direction. And moving in the direction, even without clarity about where it ends, is the work.

  • Notice what consistently makes you feel most alive — not most comfortable, not most productive, but most alive — and let that be data about your direction
  • Move toward what pulls you, even incrementally, rather than waiting for a complete plan before beginning
  • Give yourself permission to not yet know the full shape of the calling — and to move in its direction anyway
  • Trust what lights up in you when you encounter certain ideas, people, or possibilities — that lighting up is the soul’s navigational system
  • Release the requirement that your calling make immediate logical sense to everyone around you — callings rarely do

A Gentle Practice from This Card

Sit quietly and ask yourself: “What has been pulling me, consistently, that I have been explaining away or postponing?” Write the first thing that arrives, before the mind has time to assess it.

Then ask: “What would one step in that direction look like?”

Then take it. Before the week is out.

ANSWER THE CALL

Write about the pull — as honestly and fully as you can. Where you feel it in your body. What it seems to be drawing you toward. How long it has been present. What you have been doing with it.

Then write: “I trust this. Even without the full picture. Even without certainty. I trust the direction and I am beginning to move.”

Carry this with you:

“My soul calling does not require my full understanding before I respond to it. It requires only my willingness to follow the pull — one step, and then the next, and then the next.”

Your Next Light Signal

If you move toward the pull — even slightly, even tentatively — and feel a quality of aliveness that the safe, familiar path does not produce: that is the Imrama card confirming the direction. The aliveness is the signal. You are on the right path. Keep walking.

Another card was reaching for you.

The one you almost chose carries the next layer of this message. Open it when you’re ready.

A NOTE FROM THE LIGHT

If another card called to you as well, that message is also meant for you.

Open it next. The cards work together — each one revealing a layer the other illuminates.
